With no major GOP opponents, ex-President Donald Trump easily won the Georgia primary on Tuesday. But Nikki Haley still won roughly 20,000 Election Day votes despite her exit from the WH race. Statewide, Haley won about 78,000 votes in the GOP primary. And roughly 20,000 of those votes were cast on Election day, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. ATLANTA (AP) — A bill to require cash bail for 30 additional crimes is headed to Georgia Gov. The GOP-dominated House voted 97-69 for Senate Bill 63 on Monday, backing a measure that would erodes changes that Republican Gov. “This legislation will make it clear that Georgia is not going down the path of failure seen by other states and communities that have eliminated cash bail," Gaines said. It’s part of a push by Republicans nationwide to increase reliance on cash bail, even as some Democratic-led jurisdictions end cash bail entirely or dramatically restrict its use. Under the bill, bail would be required for a second or later misdemeanor offense of reckless driving or criminal trespass, as well as for any misdemeanor battery.

Brian Kemp's new health plan for low-income adults has enrolled only 1,343 people through the end of September about three months after launching, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The Georgia Department of Community Health has projected up to 100,000 people could eventually benefit from Georgia Pathways to Coverage. But the nation’s only Medicaid program that makes recipients meet a work requirement is off to a very slow start. In addition to imposing a work requirement, Pathways limits coverage to able-bodied adults earning up to 100% of the poverty line — $14,580 for a single person or $30,000 for a family of four. State officials and supporters of Pathways say the work requirement will also help transition Medicaid recipients to better, private health insurance, and argue that working, studying or volunteering leads to improved health.

ATLANTA (AP) — A political group linked to Georgia Gov. Kemp announced his plan to back lawsuit limits in August at a meeting of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. Kemp also argues lawsuit limits could help lower costs for inflation-pinched households, in part by lowering Georgia's high auto insurance rates. Most of that came from a $3.75 million transfer from Kemp's gubernatorial campaign, but a number of large companies and trade associations, including some backing lawsuit limits, made $25,000 contributions. Kemp also is using the money to bolster some Republican state lawmakers in the upcoming 2024 elections, while seeking to defeat some Democrats.

WASHINGTON, May 16 (Reuters) - Allies of Mike Pence launched a Super PAC on Tuesday to garner support for the former vice president as he moves toward an expected run for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. The political action committee will be led by former U.S. Representative Jeb Hensarling and longtime Republican strategist Scott Reed, the group said in a statement. Super PACS are allowed to raise unlimited sums for political purposes, provided they do not coordinate directly with campaigns. Standing up to Trump has not won him broad support among the Republicans who remain loyal to the former president. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, an expected candidate, drew 21% support, while Pence was backed by 5% of Republicans.

Brian Kemp has emerged as Herschel Walker's most powerful surrogate in the Georgia Senate runoff. Kemp, who won reelection as governor, didn't campaign with Walker during the general election race. This normally wouldn't be a notable act in GOP politics, but the Georgia Senate runoff election is not a normal contest. For that reason, Walker has found himself openly embracing Kemp, who came out of the general election as the biggest winner in Georgia politics.
